I had something more interesting to talk about, but I have deferred it to this weekend or possibly tomorrow. In the interim,
For the usual Lent update, I’ve been able to work out 6 days straight, and I expect it’ll be 6 of 7 again tomorrow since I won’t be working out. That about does it for Lent.
In an odd happenstance, today I turned my alarm off in my sleep but still managed to get out of bed by 7:45, so I was only about 20 minutes later than being regular late. However, in being so late, I was forced to sit behind a Jeep near the office that had two bumper stickers which had an odd connection with last night’s blog. Last night, I mentioned how I wanted to reread Atlas Shrugged, and this guy had the following bumper stickers1: 1) Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for YOURSELF and 2) Atlas WILL Shrug. And it gets better. What sort of custom license plate would you expect this person to have? AynRand? That’s what I would’ve thought. But no, it was better. Superman’s father. Jor-El, literally with the hyphen. Nice.
I realized today that I humanize the machines in my office. Or at least, I empathize with the copy machine, specifically when someone leaves the copier lid in the half up position. Some part of me must feel like that’s not a comfortable position for his “arm” to be in, since at rest it would be down, resting on the machine. So when I walk through the copy room on my way in and out of the office and the arm is up, I almost subconsciously2 will calmly ease it down to the more relaxed position. Naturally, this could just be some strange OCD behavior that makes me think things need to be a certain way for little or no reason. If this were the case, I would think that I would keep my desk and other areas more orderly… can you be OCD about one or two particular items? I mean, when I see a door open I don’t feel like I need to close it, and I’m not closing the lid to the copier 7 times every time I close it, it just doesn’t seem natural to leave it up like that. Iunno…. I’m an odd duckling, I guess.
Ok, since I slept in today, I’m going to hit the hay in the hopes that this won’t happen tomorrow3.
Catch you on the flipside.
1 Notice, these were the ONLY bumper stickers he had, so it’s not like I’m cherry picking here.
2 Almost, because I paid attention to myself doing it and thought, “This is odd, but feels right.”
3 That’s a lot of ‘h’ sounds there. Well played, me, well played.
